Syed Maharaj Family has been serving as Khadim-e-Khwaja at the blessed Dargah sharif Huzoor Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.), Ajmer Sharif. Our family continues the sacred tradition of welcoming pilgrims (Zaireen) with sincerity, humility, and devotion, offering guidance for Ziyarat, Dua, Chadar, Mannat, Langar, and family assistance from last 800 plus years . Every visitor to the Darbar of Huzoor Garib Nawaz is treated as our honoured guest.

“Maharaj” is not our caste – it is a title of love given to our great-grandfather Peer Syed Zahoor Mia Maharaj (1875) by the devotees in undivided Punjab. He served all communities equally, so people called him “Maharaj” out of respect. We have kept it for 150 years as a mark of khidmat and humility, not superiority.

Our family is hereditary custodians and key holders of the shrine. We are Gaddi Nashin Syeds and Khadims of  Huzoor Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.)  Dargah Sharif Ajmer. Our surname “Maharaj” started about 150 years ago, around 1875, with our great-grandfather Peer Syed Zahoor Mia Maharaj. In undivided Punjab, he served all the devotees with equal love, so people called him “Maharaj” out of affection. It was not claimed by himself — it was given by the people out of love. In Sufi tradition, love has no religion. Khwaja Garib Nawaz taught “Mohabbat sab se, nafrat kisi se nahi”.  At the threshold of Huzoor Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.), all khadims are equal. Bandagi mein hi buzurgi hai.

Peer Syed Zahoor Mia Maharaj travelled to undivided Punjab to share the sacred message of Huzoor Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (Garib Nawaz), focusing on universal love, peace, and spiritual harmony.
